A thought-provoking historical novel set in Oxfordshire, telling the story of a normal family in the 1960s and the unusual circumstances they find themselves in after Pam falls pregnant in her teens.

When Pam, an only child in her teens, falls pregnant in 1950s Oxford, her wealthy father is incensed. Despite his protests and her unfortunate position, she decides to keep the baby and to marry the father.

As their working-class life in Cowley moves on, Pams father Harry begins to scheme, using his power to undermine Pams husband and interfere with their daughter Lindas upbringing.

But when Harry has Linda moved to a public school, Pam is less than happy with her daughters progress and lifestyle, resenting her new friends, privileges and way of life.
