Giant’s Causeway 500 Piece Puzzle

The world-famous Giants Causeway (irish: Chlochn an Aifir) on the County Antrim coast is an amazing formation of around 40.000 interlocking basalt columns arising from the sea. Hexagonal in shape and somerising to 12 metersin height, they were created by rapidly cooling lava from a volcanic eruption 60 million years ago.

The Giants Causeway is said to have been built by Fionn Mac Cumhaill (or Finn Mac Cool) when a Scottish giant, Benandonner was threatening to invade Ireland. In a fit of rage, Fionn threw the columns into the sea to create a path to Scotland, where he defeated Benandonner in combat. The Giants Causeway is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
