Krystian Zimmerman : Szymanowski-Works For Piano

After decades of studying Karol Szymanowski’s solo piano works, Krystian Zimerman presents an album with a diverse repertoire spanning from 1899 to the mid-1920s. It shows the multifaceted nature of Szymanowski’s musical language and sheds new light on the composer’s previously little-known oeuvre. The album combines the 2022 recording at the Fukuyama Concert Hall designed by world-renowned acoustician Yasuhisa Toyota with Zimerman’s previously unreleased 1994 recording. ‘Karol Szymanowski: Piano Works’ thus concludes Zimerman’s journey through Szymanowski’s solo piano music, which began in 1994. The album offers the listener a fascinating insight into Szymanowski’s sound world, from the splendor and opulence of the ‘Masques’ to the noble variations on a Polish folk theme and the folksy idioms of the ‘Mazurkas’.
