Out of Nowhere

A man escapes a prison van in the Australian outback and walks towards the one thing he has left: his daughter. Frank Neely is a thief, a drifter, a man God wont leave alone. Pursued, hunted, and perpetually broke, he crosses a country that wants to swallow him whole.

Winner of the Bath Novel Award. Frank Neely is riding in a prison transport van when it is ambushed in the dark. He walks free not into freedom exactly, but into the vast, merciless heat of the Australian interior. He has no money, no plan, and one destination: the daughter he hasnt seen in years. He calls her Poke. She is the only good thing he can name. Told in Franks relentless present and in the fragmentary voice of Abi, his former wife, this is a novel about a man defined by what he has lost and what he refuses to surrender: by turns darkly funny, bleak, and unexpectedly tender.
